Typical Costa Rican Breakfast(s), some not-so-typical Paella, and San José Cafe

I had some of the most delicious food while on our honeymoon in Costa Rica, but these pancakes probably took the (pan)cake. Hee. Pancakes with bananas seemed pretty common there. Every single place we stayed had banana pancakes for breakfast at some point in our stay. Perhaps this is due to the large supply of bananas.

This was more of a typical breakfast in Costa Rica. Bread and cheese. Chocolate cake! (A country after my own heart.) Pineapple and mango. Rice and beans. Don’t forget the delicious coffee! That’s my husband’s hand in the upper right corner, greedily fondling his cheese and ham on a soft piece bread.

This was a paella made with fideua - very common in Catalán cuisine. It was delicious! (Not typical Costa Rican, obviously, but it was made in Costa Rica!) This was the host of the eco-friendly hotel where we stayed, a gentleman from Valencia, Spain (very near where I used to summer in Murcia!). Yes, I just said summer.

This was the café inside of the National Theatre. We stopped here to have a coffee. It goes without saying, Costa Rican coffee is amazing. The National Theatre was built after an opera diva from Italy came to San José and there was nowhere good enough for her to perform. The president thus put a tax on coffee to fund what would become this National Theatre. Yep, I read the guide books.
